Kim Eung-Bum

Abstract
We investigated the improvement of communication skills with age among autistic children and how it affects the occurrence of temper tantrum in those children. Four autistic children with regular tantrums were monitored over a period of four years and their communication activities and temper tantrums were studied. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) the improvement of communication skills reduces temper tantrums; 2) improved ability to look at others and to understand instructions and carry out activities reduces the tantrums; 3) improved ability to answer questions also reduce the tantrums; and 4) Acquiring an ability to express their needs, even in a nonverbal form, reduces the occurrences, and the effect is greater when they use more verbal means.
